The church is post war (1953 -61) and replaces a church by Decimus Burton that was destroyed by bombs in 1944 during the Second World War - if anyone has a picture of this earlier building I would be grateful. The earlier church was built in 1832 in the Gothic style by James Burton, with extensive renovations by the London based architect John Billing in 1862.
This church is well known for its pulpit which is built in the form of a Galilean fishing boat.
