Troy Town, Balcombe, Sussex

A lovely old view of a past way of life.  Two recent correspondents have informed me that Troy Town is the name of a house which is on the west side of the main road through Balcombe.  Has anyone got any ideas about the large rectangular object on the Chimney - is is perhaps a sign, it looks as if it has writing on it?

I have also been sent this image of the same place with permission to share it here.

There are pictures of the nearby Balcombe Viaduct in my photograph album.

There are pictures of the Parish Church and the United Reformed Church in my church album.
