Royal Tunbridge Wells - Brighton Lake, The Common

This lake on the Common adjacent to Eridge Road was built as a labour creation scheme for the unemployed of the town by the incumbent of King Charles the Martyr Church, William Law Pope.  This earned the lake the nick name 'Pope's Puddle'.  He is buried in Woodbury Park Cemetery.

This image is from a postcard published by J Salmon of Sevenoaks and is from an original by A R Quinton.
