Brighton West Pier - January 4th 2003

A break in the rainy weather and a spot of welcome sunshine allowed me to take this picture of the Brighton West Pier after the dreadful damage inflicted by the stormy weather at the end of December.  What a national disgrace that we should have allowed this Grade 1 listed building to get into this condition.

The condition of this pier has further worsened since this picture was taken - an arsonist has burnt down the far end of the pier which escaped the storm damage.

The trust responsible for it's care are remarkably still being very positive about the likelihood of a successful restoration and opening to the public, although there are current arguments surrounding the development necessary to make the project self funding.
