Slow worm in our garden - September 2002

One evening in September 2002 Alan came in from taking out our organic kitchen waste to the compost heap in a state of some excitement, asking me to grab the camera.  He had found a slow worm (which is not a snake but a legless lizard) under the old door mat we had thrown on the heap. And here is this legless lizard - what a fantastic golden colour!

Since then he has found two more, so we are hopeful they are breeding in our garden.
