Site of old Cathedral, Old Sarum, Wiltshire - 24th September 2003

We visited Old Sarum (the site of the ancient city of Salisbury) on a lovely sunny September day.  The site is managed by English Heritage.

The first cathedral, built between 1075 and 1092 by Bishop Osmund, was destroyed in a storm only five days after it was consecrated in 1092!  It was magnificently rebuilt by Bishop Roger, but demolished in the early thirteenth century when the present Salisbury Cathedral was constructed.
