St Peter, Cowfold, West Sussex - 22nd June 2004

The church was locked on the day of my visit.  Here is a view of the east end of the church from the churchyard.

The church contains a monumental brass of Thomas Nelond, Prior of the Cluniac monastery at Lewes from 1421 to 1429.  Members of his family probably brought it to the church after the destruction of the priory in the 1540's.  The brass is one of the finest in the country but may only be seen by appointment.  This image is the one reproduced on a plaque outside the church gate.
