This church dominates the high street, and from a distance, with the nearby castle, defines the views of the village which is well known as the location of Orford Ness, one of the largest shingle spits in Europe. The Ness was until recent years a top secret atomic weapons research base, but is now a nature reserve owned and managed by the National Trust.
