An unknown Saint. An angel. St Domonic | The two saints in the small lights at the top are probably both representations of St Osyth, the left hand one holding her head in her hand. The emblem of the Holy Trinity surmounted by an angel. Our Lady of Pity - the Virgin Mary holding her son's body on her lap after he had been taken down from the Cross. The small monk kneeling with rings on his thumbs is thought to be the person who donated the glass. A small roundel in which three rabbits' heads share three ears, although each one has the complete complement of two! This is often considered as a symbol of the Holy Trinity and is unique in medieval glass to Long Melford. However, it has also been found painted on a Buddhist cave near Dunhuang in China (dated 600 A.D.). There are also 19 medieval examples in wooden bosses in Devon. | Unknown saint. Unknown saint. St Peter. |
A closer view of the rabbits. (Photograph of a poster in the church - the actual window was too far away to get a decent view with my standard lens!)
