Situated on the road north of Rottingdean, there is a cross on my map indicating a chapel behind the building shown below. This entrance has been blocked for vehicular traffic.

The former chapel was that of St Mary's Home for Female Penitents, run by the Community of the Blessed Virgin, an Anglican religious order of nuns founded by the Reverend Arthur Douglas Wagner. It moved from Queen Square to Ovingdean in 1912 and closed in 1974. The Scientologists bought the property in 1980 and later sold it for residential development.
Sadly, the grounds are private and,I have been told that the chapel is now part of the residential development and has been converted to flats. The Sisters still have a right to be buried in the graveyard which remains.
My thanks to Malcolm J Stacey & Ralph Crane for the information on this page.
