Following the destruction of the majority of the Old Church by a violent storm on 23rd November 1824, a new church was constructed at the sole expense of the Rev. George Gould M. A. (Vicar). The first stone was laid by him on 25th April 1827 and the church was consecrated by the Lord Bishop of Bristol, the Right Rev. Robert Gray, on 25th August 1829.
