St Barnabas Chapel of Ease, Newcomen Road, Dartmouth, Devon - 27th February 2009

No longer a church, this unusual and attractive building which was erected in1831 has now been converted into an admirable training project and an award winning restaurant called the 'Dartmouth Apprentice'.

St Barnabas Chapel of Ease, Dartmouth, Devon - MTC

The church had fallen into disrepair during the 1960s until it was used as a furniture workshop from 1979 until the 1990s when the ongoing maintenance became too onerous for the owner, Bob Trevatt, and the community project was conceived in partnership with Signpost Care Partnerships and the local authority.

Quite why it was felt necessary in the 19th century to add a fourth church to the three ancient parish churches already in the town is rather a mystery!
